Philomena M. Johnson

Philomena M. Johnson, M.S., is the Chief Executive Officer, Educator, Career and Empowerment Strategist for PhiDex Enterprises, LLC. She has designed and developed over 200 workshops, seminars, lectures for career development and planning at Cleveland State University’s College of Science, Cleveland, Ohio and Niagara County Community College, Sanborn, New York. Philomena is a native of Buffalo, New York. She has conducted various Family Work-Life Balance Workshops; Cost of Success Trainings and Presentations. She is an MBTI Certified practitioner who can perform assessment and evaluation for career management activities. Philomena has been in the higher education field for over 20 years holding several positions in student affairs and enrollment management. She has taught Career Exploration, Career Orientation and Achievement Motivation courses.

She graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo’s School of Management with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1984 and received a Master’s of Science in Student Personnel Administration in 1997 from the State University College at Buffalo. Prior to joining the ranks of higher education administration, Philomena worked at Marine Midland Bank which is now HSBC Bank. The last position that she held at the bank was as a Section Coordinator for the Court Accounting Unit of the Investment Services Division. Philomena was the Western Region Liaison for the Trust and Estate Division and was instrumental in the conversion of accounts to a new computerized based technology enhanced accounting software system and training of new employees. She also received an Accelerated Banking Certificate from the American Institute of Banking doing her tenure at HSBC. She was a Recent Scholar in Residence at the Oxford Roundtable, London, England 2010; where she addressed “Women’s Career Investment: Career Benefit and Barriers for the 21st Century Green Economy.” And, her works were later published in the “Forum on Public Policy,” September of 2010. Philomena has also received several awards, proclamations and congressional recognitions for her interest in helping students from diverse populations pursue post-secondary education. Philomena is seeking to expand her business operations in the future with the purpose of structuring her passion and that is to “Passionately Help Individuals Develop Excellence,” and PhiDex Enterprises, LLC.

Dr. Dexter Johnson

Dr. Dexter Johnson is the Chief Operations Officer, PhiDex Enterprises, LLC an Engineer, Educator, Entrepreneur, and Minister. He was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Johnson is employed at the NASA Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field in Cleveland, Ohio, where he serves as the Chief of the Structural Systems Dynamics Branch and has worked there since 1990. He graduated from the City Honors High School (Buffalo, NY) in 1982, the University at Buffalo (UB) with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 1987, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, in 1989 and 1995, respectively. His current engineering interests involve overseeing Structural Systems Dynamics work focused on Launch Vehicle and Spacecraft Dynamic Environments applicable to Spaceflight Hardware Design, Development, and Testing.

He previously was involved in the development and application of magnetic suspension technology to advanced aerospace turbomachinery. He is the inventor of the Adaptive Variable Bias Control method for power-saving operation of active magnetic suspension systems. In 1998, Dr. Johnson was one of 6 individuals selected nationwide to participate in the prestigious NASA Administrator’s Fellowship Program in which he was a visiting professor at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering, worked at NASA Headquarters, and was a visiting researcher at several industrial organizations. Also, in 1998, Dr. Johnson received the esteemed "NASA Honor Award - Exceptional Service Medal" for his magnetic suspension systems research and development. In 2003, he won the National Technical Association (NTA) Technical Achiever of the Year – Technologist Category Award. In 2006, he won the Science Spectrum Magazine Trailblazer Award. In 2006, he was selected as a UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences 60 years of Excellence – Distinguished Alumni. In 2008, he won the NASA Honor Award – Group Achievement Award for contributing to the design and development of the NASA Ares I-X Upper Stage Simulator. In 2010, he received the Celestial Torch Award – Aerospace Pioneer of the Year from the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Aerospace Systems Conference. Dr. Dexter Johnson served on the Board of Directors of the NTA as the National Treasurer from 2002 through 2004. Dr. Johnson is also an active member of the NSBE, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). His NSBE involvement spans 30 years inclusive of membership, student leadership, professional leadership, mentorship, and corporate recruitment. He was a founding member of the UB chapter. He currently serves on the Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council at UB. He recently was awarded the 2012 UB Alumni Association Achievement Awards – Clifford C. Furnas Memorial Award and the 2012 City Honors High School Alumni Award.
